Student Success Center
Mission
The mission of the Student Success Center (SSC) at St. Augustine is to provide comprehensive programs, holistic services, vital information and community resources to empower students and support their academic, career and life goals. The SSC is committed to all aspects of student support so students may successfully meet the requirements of academic courses and degrees, choose careers that fulfill their passion and identify higher education institutions to pursue an advanced degree.
Welcoming Center
The SSC is a safe, secure and welcoming center for students who may need tutoring sessions, library support, career services, a room for study groups or just a fun place to relax. Located on the 2nd floor of the Main Campus, the SSC space is designed for comfort and ease and is conducive for all members of the SAC community. Each student has a unique journey, and the SSC can help you on your path to academic success and a career.
Services Help Students Succeed
Need career advice? Need help with resume writing and tutoring? SSC services for all students include the Tutoring & Writing Center, Virtual Library, Career & Transfer Center and Wellness Center. The SSC hosts a wide variety of student events throughout the year. Students have access to tutoring on a wide range of 1) academic topics such as math, writing, APA/MLA citations, test-taking and research, 2) career topics like resumes, interviewing and job searches and, 3) life topics like stress management, self-care, heart health and more. Students can also practice their language skills with English Talking Circles. ESL practice activities are available for students who want to develop their language skills.
How to Access Resources to Support Your Journey
The SSC provides referrals to mental health counseling, housing assistance, financial literacy and other support services. SSC serves students, alumni, and the wider community. Students can access a variety of helpful resources through their individualized Canvas account, Campus Connect, scheduling a Zoom session or visiting the Student Success Center on the 2nd floor at the Main Campus on Argyle Street.
SUPPORT & RESOURCES FOR HOMELESS STUDENTS (IL PUBLIC ACT 102-0083)
HOUSING AND OPPORTUNITIES USEFUL FOR STUDENTS’ EXCELLENCE (HOUSE)
Beginning August 1, 2022, Illinois Public Act 102-0083, the Higher Education House and Opportunities Act, requires each institution of higher education to designate a member of staff to serve as the Housing and Opportunities that are Useful for Students’ Excellence Liaison (HOUSE Liaison). HOUSE Liaisons provide assistance and resources to any homeless student or youth in care enrolled at the institution. HOUSE Liaisons are also required to undergo annual training and collect certain data on the institution’s homeless population as part of this role.
We recognize that some students may be homeless or are at risk of experiencing homelessness. We are committed to supporting you and helping you find the resources you need and removing any barriers to college retention and success. Although St. Augustine College at Lewis University does not provide on-campus housing, the institution is linked with organizations that assist with placement, other support services and resources. Below, you will find links to available resources both on and off campus.
